WestJet 787 Premium Class Enhanced Comfort
On our recent vacation to Scotland from Vancouver, we had the opportunity to fly Premium Class on 4 flights total. Two were International bound flights; Calgary/Edinburgh return, onboard their Dreamliner in …
WestJet Premium Economy Class
This was our first time flying in their 787 Dreamliner, but not the first time flying; Premium Economy, on their smaller aircraft.
All flights were very comfortable and for the most part, on time as well.
Our WestJet Premium Economy Class Flight Experience
One of the superb inclusions with your Premium Economy ticket, is been able to use:
Priority Check In and Boarding, along with Business Class passengers.
2 checked baggage allowance per passenger.
We always do online check-in prior to our flight 24 hours in advance. Allowing Premium passengers access to the priority check in line at the airport for baggage drop is great.
Especially when you’re talking up to 320 passengers for just our flight alone!
You may also use the Priority Screening lines at security as well, where applicable.
You receive priority baggage claim and surprisingly, our bags did come out of the carousel first!
Boarding The Aircraft
Priority is also given with this class of service, boarding in Zone 1.
This is together with Business Class passengers.
Once seated, we were quickly greeted by our flight attendant for each flight, and offered a; welcome drink {orange juice, champagne and/or Mimosa}.
Premium Economy Class Cabin Inclusions
What I do like about Westjet’s Dreamliners, is the seat configuration {2x3x2}.
So if you’re a couple traveling and you book early, you can land a separate; Isle and window seat.
Otherwise, you’re left with selecting from the middle 3 seats.
You also have a separate and curtained private cabin, with your own toilet in your section.
Bonus!
Inclusions:
38 inches of seat pitch, compared to 31 inches in regular economy.
21 inch wide seats – 19 inches in regular economy.
We found the seats on all flights very comfortable and not worn.
1 small bottle of water upon boarding;
Rocky Mountain Soap amenity kit {flights to/from Europe, UK, Japan)
Packaged soft blankets & pillow.
Entertainment options:
13.3 inch touch screen seat back monitor (11.6 inch front row in-arm monitor);
We did have front row seating and found the tv screens to be just fine.
A variety of movies, television episodes and music to choose from;
Internet access (for a fee);
Video games;
A selection of magazines;
(We did not see any magazines onboard, possibly due to new covid restrictions).
Passive noise-cancelling headphones;
AC power outlet and USB ports.
Inflight Meals & Snacks
Once at altitude, we were served with a light snack with a drink of choice.
Soon after, our meal was served for the evening.
Exclusive snacks and beverages are always included in your fare and on flights over 2.5 hours,
enjoy a Canadian or globally inspired hot meal.
Our meals on both flights, I must admit, were very good.
A menu is handed out before takeoff, with your flight attendant taking your order shortly afterwards.
There is a choice of wines to select from for your meal and during the flight.
We were quite impressed with our meals and a light snack before arrival on both our flights. No complaints regarding the quality and the way our meals were served to us, by our assigned flight attendant.
It’s quite obvious to see that the majority of flight attendants onboard, are senior attendants with Westjet.
Note:
We were surprised that on both of our flights, our flight attendants both forgot to bring our drink orders, to accompany our dinner.
Not a big deal, but they did write our dinner and drink selections down when we ordered.
All in all and including our short flight from Vancouver to Calgary, choosing Premium Economy, was well worth the extra expense.
If we’re flying long-haul and after all these years of air travel, I always try to book at least Premium Economy,
or use my credit card points/miles to book Business Class.
We do have the {WestJet World Elite Mastercard}, and although they are very skimpy on award miles, I use my accumulated miles to upgrade from Basic Economy, when flying with this airline.
Would I choose Premium Economy with WestJet again
Yes
