Kulula Airline Cool Paint Schemes
I have to be honest with you, I had never heard of this airline before receiving this email.
After viewing the unique paint schemes on their airplanes, I had to investigate the airline further, and share some of their photos with you.
One Of Three Domestic Carriers
From what I have been able to gather, Kulula Airways was one of three lower cost airlines flying domestically throughout South Africa.
Their marketing and brand strategy made leaps and bounds, resulting in them becoming one of the more recognized airlines in the industry. The airlines head office was situated in Johannesburg, South Africa.
They were a more casual type of carrier, where staff and crew were far more relaxed and humorous then the majority of other carriers worldwide. This however, did not in any way distinguish them as a fly by night airline, with little or no regard for safety.

The opposite is quite true; in fact this airline was recognized by the {IOSA} as having met their stringent international safety standards.
These tough standards include…
Aircraft engineering and maintenance;
Corporate organization and management systems;
Flight operations;
Operational control;
Flight dispatch;
Cabin operations;
Operational security;
Ground handling;
Cargo operations.

Kalulu Crew Make You Feel Happy
It appears that one of the job requirements required for a position at Kulula Airline, was to have a positive attitude and a great sense of humor.
While commitment and safety are priority one, staff and crew seemed to all have a very positive outlook and definitely enjoyed their chosen profession.
Management were always coming up with truly unique and fun ways, to make them different from the rest.
You have to love what they came up with when naming their loyalty program points.
They called their air reward mile points ‘kulula moolah’.

Fun Flight Announcements
Here are some examples of some actual reported flight attendant announcements during typical Kulula Airline flights:
“There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are only 4 ways out of this airplane.”
“Thank you for flying Kulula. We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed taking you for a ride.”
“In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, masks will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you have a small child traveling with you, secure your mask before assisting with theirs. If you are traveling with more than one small child, pick your favorite.”
“Weather at our destination is 50 degrees with some broken clouds, but we’ll try to have them fixed before we arrive. Thank you, and remember nobody loves you or your money more than Kulula Airlines.”
The pilot during his welcome message:
“Kulula Airlines is pleased to announce that we have some of the best flight attendants in the industry. Unfortunately, none of them are on this flight!”
After a very hard landing, the flight attendant said:
“That was quite a bump and I know what y’all are thinking. I’m here to tell you it wasn’t the airline’s fault, it wasn’t the pilot’s fault, it wasn’t the flight attendant’s fault, it was the asphalt.”

I could go on and on with reported humor on Kulula planes, here is just one more and my favorites!
Humor With Pilots
A Pilot reported after making a particularly hard landing:
The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the door while the passengers exited, smile, and give them a “Thanks for flying our airline”. He said that, in light of his bad landing, he had a hard time looking the passengers in the eye, thinking that someone would have a smart comment. Finally everyone had gotten off except for a little old lady walking with a cane.
“Why, no Ma’am,” said the pilot. “What is it?”
The little old lady said,
“Did we land, or were we shot down?”
It is so rare these days to see employees happy and creating a wonderful work environment, for everyone to enjoy. I would be willing to bet there were very few employees with Kulula Airlines who did not enjoy coming to work.
Hats off to the airlines management and marketing staff for allowing humor into the work place.
I am sure it benefited everyone involved, including their paying customers!
Update:
A newer paint scheme to add to the Kulula Airline Humor Bank. A Zipper paint scheme with the words; “Taking Off.”
It appears at this time, that flights have been voluntarily suspended pending successfully securing additional funding to resume operations.
