Some moments in life are beautifully orchestrated, not by meticulous planning, but by chance, mood, and a little bit of magic. That’s exactly how I ended up doing a flying dress photoshoot on my 20th blog anniversary on June 5, 2025 in Phuket, Thailand.
20 Years of Travel Blogging
Yes, it’s been 20 years. Two whole decades since I started blogging. Sometimes frequently, sometimes sporadically, and sometimes vanishing entirely but always returning. The blog has been a faithful companion, an outlet, a witness to my evolving life and travels.
This wasn’t supposed to be a flying dress photo shoot celebration. It was just meant to be a short trip with my sister Alka. Around my birthday, she suggested a quick getaway before my passport expired. I said yes without hesitation. Thailand, with its easy visa-free access for Indians and a special place in my heart, felt like the natural choice. Though I’ve been there 11 times, almost always on blogging trips, this was my very first personal holiday in Thailand. I have to thank TAT New Delhi from the bottom of my heart for trusting me on so many media trips.
And why travel to Phuket? Simply because I hadn’t been before. It was also Alka’s first trip to Thailand, and we could’ve picked any destination, but this one felt just right.
The Surprise That Waited in the Hotel Lobby
On 4th June, as I was walking back from the beach to my room at the stunning Pullman Phuket Karon Beach Resort, I noticed a small photography booth setup in the lobby. It had brochures, sample photos, and most striking of all, flying dresses for rent. My curiosity got the better of me, and I stopped by.
The photographer, Ramy, was warm and helpful. He pointed me to a WhatsApp number and told me it wasn’t possible to do a shoot that day, but it could be arranged the next day. That next day just happened to be my 20th blogging anniversary.
I messaged the number, and a friendly girl replied. Everything fell into place quickly. We confirmed the timing. The dresses. The location. It all sounded perfect, except for one thing: the weather.
The next day it rained, like a lot. The skies were stubborn, and the photographer, Rami, was delayed. We waited and waited, wondering if the moment would slip away. My sister Alka was dealing with a mild ankle discomfort too, and going to the beach was no longer an option. But then, the clouds gave way just enough, and Rami arrived.
A Lawn, A Dress, and a Little Bit of Magic
We chose to do the photoshoot on the lush lawn of the Pullman resort itself , a decision born of necessity but one that turned out to be perfect. We slipped into those flowing dresses in the comfort of our rooms. We walked from our room through the lobby to the lawn holding the long tails. But then something magical unfolded. The dress, the movement, the colors, and the joy, it all came together like a celebration choreographed by the universe itself.
We didn’t need the sea. We didn’t need a dramatic sunset. We had the rain-kissed grass, the energy of the moment, and the quiet thrill of doing something so out of the ordinary.
And just like that, on my 20th blog anniversary, we created something unforgettable, not in front of an audience, not with a plan, but simply by saying yes to the moment. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. It also helps that the photoshoot was not breaking my bank.
But more than the photos or the dress, I’ll remember the feeling, of saying yes, of twirling in the rain, and of celebrating two decades of storytelling with open arms and flying fabric with my sister by my side.
