As spring has flown by, Skyscanner is already thinking about the best places to cap off the season before summer is in full force.

Naming only one U.S. destination on their list of “Top 10 warm holiday destinations in May,” Skyscanner suggests travelers opt for Miami before the city becomes unbearable without a rooftop pool or easy access to one of many beautiful beaches. Given the scorching humidity, Skyscanner is definitely onto something by suggesting travelers opt for an American icon or make the most of their passport come summer.

Miami is not only a beach city, of course; it’s also one of the most cultural destinations in the country with vibrant neighborhoods showcasing art, traditions, and sensational flavors from around the globe with a particularly heavy influence from Caribbean and Latin American backgrounds.

As we’re now halfway through April, there’s only one month left for a spring getaway. Skyscanner claims Miami is the top U.S. vacation spot, with average temperatures hovering between 76 and 81 degrees, perfect for blissful beach days, urban adventures, or Miami’s famous yacht parties (should you be lucky enough to score an invite).

Miami’s Array Of Beaches

Travelers may have already take advantage of a head start this spring since Miami has clamped down on rowdy spring breakers, making this vibrant city more welcoming to all travelers — not just “woo!’ girls and obnoxious beer chuggers.

That being said, it’s easy to understand Miami is such a draw for this type of crowd as there’s no better place in the States to let loose than South Beach.

Nestled on a barrier island, South Beach is laden with posh oceanfront hotels and art deco boulevards, as well as trendy eats, bars, and typical souvenir shops, but not the clearest water in Miami.

It’s the party beach, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But there are certainly more relaxing and pristine beaches to visit if South Beach isn’t your vibe.

One such place is Key Biscayne, a stunningly beautiful island escape across the sprawling cityscape with white sand beaches, quintessential beach bars Jimmy Buffett would approve, and home to numerous yacht owners to try to befriend.

Of course, you don’t have to stay in Miami proper either. There’s numerous scenic beach towns a stone’s throw away, such as Sunny Isles, Hollywood, and even Fort Lauderdale, which is essentially Miami’s less-flashy sibling with a better airport (if you ask me).

Little Havana Is A Must

Visiting Miami’s bustling Little Havana is a must for anybody visiting Miami, whether it’s a layover or full-blown vacation.

It’s as close as you’ll get to the real Havana, but I’m a little biased, having been in the actual country of Cuba and Miami’s Little Havana.

If you’re wondering which I like more, let’s just say I didn’t leave Little Havana’s cozy cafes and Cubano food trucks keeled over and hallucinating from food poisoning…

Little Havana may be missing classic cars and kaleidoscopic historic buildings like that of actual Havana, but the warmth of its locals, the aroma of hand-rolled cigars, wild chickens roaming the streets, and the contagious rhythm of salsa music are still alive and well.

La Colada Gourmet is a must for an authentic cup of Cuban coffee and Ball & Chain is always poppin’ and the beer is always cold.

Miami’s Top Attractions & Hidden Gems

Beyond Little Havana or hobnobbing around South Beach, Skyscanner shared a few recommendations.

The Miami Seaquarium is one of America’s oldest aquariums — a must-visit especially if the kiddos are in tow this trip.

Bayside Marketplace is a trendy shopping complex with top-rated restaurants like CRAFT Bayside, holding a near-perfect Google rating even with 2,500 reviews.

For the artsy crowd, a stroll along waterfront Pérez Art Museum Miami offers sweeping views of Biscayne Bay and the museum itself showcasing impressive modern and contemporary art is a masterpiece in its own right.

But as renowned as Miami is for art, culture, food, nightlife, and luxury, are there any hidden gems left?

Sure, there is! Skyscanner highlights Everglades National Park tours as a fun escape from the city to immerse yourself in Florida’s vast ecosystem of swamplands, sawgrass prairies, and secret Caribbean-esque beaches, which is essentially the Sunshine State’s last frontier.

Another gem would be Oleta River State Park, where you can kayak or paddleboard through winding mangrove-lined emerald waterways; another tranquil escape from Miami’s chaos.
