Alternatives to Uber in Mallorca

Taxis
Although Uber is an expensive way to travel around Mallorca, thankfully, local taxis are available and at a more reasonable price.
I worked out that the price in southeast Mallorca was around one euro per minute of journey, so a 25 minute trip would cost about €25.
Be aware that in peak times and in smaller, more remote areas there can be long wait times for taxis on Mallorca. It would be a good idea to reserve ahead in July and August for taxi trips. Shoulder months like May in Mallorca can also be busy but wait times should be shorter.
There are local taxi apps like NTaxi and Mallorcab. However, I struggled to book a taxi with these as they do not allow taxis to be booked from outside the local province you’re in.
I found it easier just to call a local taxi firm and order a taxi. I speak Spanish but the operators also spoke English, so this is an easy option. I did have to ring several times before anyone answered but eventually got through.

Buses
Taxis are useful for a quick way to get from A to B but buses on Mallorca are also very useful for getting around.
Buses cover large parts of the island and are cheaper than taxis. TIB buses connect Palma with the main towns and some beaches.
Make sure to pay with a card on the bus rather than in cash, or you will pay significantly more.
You also need to tap in and out when getting on and off buses. The machines are located near the driver and by the middle doors (which you must use to exit the bus).
Trains
The capital of Mallorca, Palma, has a very small Metro network, with metro trains running north of Palma only.
There are also a few train routes to a limited number of towns, including Inca, Sa Pobla and Manacor.
For a fun day out, take the old-fashioned train that runs from Palma to Sóller. This is a great activity to do on Mallorca. You will need to book in advance for it though, as its very popular and regularly sells out.
How to get to and from the airport in Mallorca
There are a few ways to get from Palma de Mallorca Airport into Palma centre, or out to the other towns. Which one works best depends on where you’re heading and what time you arrive.
If you’re landing late at night, have luggage, or need to reach a more remote spot, a private transfer is often the easiest option.
It’s door-to-door, reliable, and saves the hassle of figuring out late bus timetables or waiting in the taxi queue with everyone else who’s just landed.
For popular destinations like Palma, Magaluf, Alcúdia or Colònia de Sant Jordi, the airport buses are a budget-friendly choice.
The bus stops are just outside the arrivals area, cross the road and you’ll spot them easily.
Depending on your final destination, you might need to change buses, so check the routes in advance on the TIB website.
