Many Italian cities are known for their amazing fusion of; modernity and cultural past. If you want to spend your next vacation in a bustling Italian seaport town, or cherish the beautiful Italian countryside, it’s not difficult at all.
If your budget is limited, you can still enjoy a vacation in this beautiful European country. In fact, Italy happens to be the fifth most popular destination for tourists, as per the; World Trade Organization {WTO}.
Prepare An Itinerary When Traveling On A Budget
For budget minded travelers, it’s handy to know a few tips, to ensure vacationing in Italy, won’t bleed your wallet. Things can be very expensive in Europe, for those visiting from abroad.
It’s good to research some areas and provinces you want to cover beforehand. Italy has a plethora of attractions and it’s good to zero in on the ones, that seem budget friendly, from all perspectives. For instance, you may choose to visit cities in; Lombardy, Piedmont or Sicily.
If you plan well ahead, finding cheaper accommodation in hotels in your desired destinations, as well as cheaper flights, will definitely be easier to accomplish.

To ensure that your tour in Italy will be hassle free, make sure all travel documentation is; valid and prepared well ahead of time. Passports need to be valid for a minimum of 6 months, beyond your time of stay in the country.
Finding Budget Accommodations
Several Italian cities offer; pocket friendly accommodations, for those on a budget. You may be able to find cheaper priced hotels near rail stations, in some cities. But in larger more popular cities, it may be more difficult to locate budget accommodations.
This especially so during the peak tourist season!
A better option to consider, may be settling for agrotourismo setups, in the suburbs and countryside.
Researching on the internet regarding this type of accommodation, may just help get you those; bargain deals.
Some winery owners in the countryside also offer; farmhouse turned accommodations.

We booked all our accommodations using Airbnb, on our recent road trip throughout Scotland. We saved a huge amount of money, by avoiding hotels. It’s also a great way to meet and interact with the locals!
The Italian Rail Network
To cut down on travel and sightseeing costs, you may want to make use of Italy’s excellent; rail network.
There are many tourist destinations that are well connected with train service. Traveling by rail is quite reasonable and a great way to travel in Italy and throughout Europe.
The bus is also a great option for budget minded travelers. When you travel from airports to hotels and/or nearby cities, using airport; shuttle bus service, is way more economical than taxi cabs.

Walk Around In The Small Cities
There are several small sized cities in Italy that can easily be traveled on foot, if capable. It’s always best if you can arrange accommodation, near the heart of the city. This, especially if you enjoy walking.
This way you can cover the major tourist spots including any; museums, art galleries or other sightseeing options, by foot and/or local transit.
You Can Save Money Eating In Italy
In this paragraph, we’ll talk about 🥘 dining options, to help save money. While Italy is known for its delicious olive oil dishes and some of the finest wines, in the world, choosing eating outlets wisely, can help save a ton of money.
Like hotels, you can find cheaper eating outlets in the suburbs, compared to the more; popular restaurants catering to tourists and alike. Some agrotourismo owners, also offer their guests meals, at low costs.
Italy is the land of pizza and away from the tourist zones, you can find this popular dish much more affordably, in most cities in Italy. When you eat at restaurants, try to opt for the meal of the day. It is also known as; meal del giorno which comes with; 4 courses.
Remember, it’s not necessary to tip either!
Travel When The Crowds Are Less
You can save a lot of money by visiting Italy in the; off season months. If there are no {Special Events} planned during the off season, visiting during this time, can definitely save you a huge amount of money.
Shoulder season months include; April, May, the first few weeks of June, September
and October, while off-season months include; November and February.

Accommodation and Food like anywhere, will be your the hardest on your travel budget. With a little preplanning and being more selective, you can save a lot of money. We avoid restaurants as much as we can, opting for bakeries, deli’s, grocery stores and other more inexpensive establishments.
