On our first visit to beautiful {Akumal} Mexico in the Mayan Riviera almost 10 years ago, we had the pleasure of joining …
Edventure Tours In Tulum in Tulum for the day, on their exclusive … Snorkel Experience Tour.
What a great day it was and in April 2023, my wife and I returned to Akumal. Once again, we joined them on one of their other exciting tours.
First, check out this short but superb video, from a couple of Vloggers on … Tours in Tulum, Mexico – You Must Not Miss

Brief History Of Edventure Tours In Tulum
Owner Eduardo and Staff
This is a family owned and operated business and proudly recognized as the; Original Tour Company, in this region. The owners and staff have been introducing visitors to the Yucatan Peninsula’s main attractions for decades, and their experience definitely shows!
“Edventure Tours in Tulum has grown and Big Eddie will happily greet you, as you arrive at our tour shop. We still remain a small company, with local guides that pride themselves in wanting to show you, the best day – the best places, with the best service possible.
They are proud to tell you of their heritage, their history, and personal stories of this area”.
On our first tour seasons ago, we were picked up promptly at our resort hotel, previously arranged.
We were transported to the Edventure Tours In Tulum shop, located right in town.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the owners and staff and then properly outfitted with; snorkel equipment and wet suits. These would be used for our time in the water throughout the day.
This was also the gathering place for others joining us for the day and/or embarking on, other exciting activities Edventure Tours in Tulum offer.
On our second tour, we again were picked up promptly at our hotel and taken directly, to our first private cenote location. Our equipment was taken right to this location to speed things up, allowing for much more time, to enjoy our adventures.

Nelson – Our Guide for the Day
Having already viewed the incredible {Tulum National Park} previously, our guide {Nelson} and driver invited us on a short tour of {Tulum} proper, and its surrounding beaches.
With the option of choosing smaller individualized private tours if you wish, allows you the flexibility to alter the itinerary as you go along. This, unlike those larger formal bus tours.
We were able to stop and browse around the town center, with Nelson pointing out some of the town’s history.
He also showed us some other popular areas worth visiting at a later time on our own, if we wished to do so.
We also made a stop at a beautiful stretch of white sand beach, dotted with modest beachfront bungalow accommodations, together with side street restaurants and cafes. An added bonus not expected and greatly appreciated!
Edventure Snorkel Tours First Stop – Cenotes Dos Ojos
Nelson briefing us on the massive Dos Ojos Cenotes
Our first stop and snorkel excursion of the day, was at the beautiful {Dos Ojos Cenotes}.
Located just a short distance north of Tulum, Dos Ojos is a very popular flooded cave system for scuba divers and snorkeler’s alike.
After our amazing time snorkeling here and with our guide showing us the way at all times, it certainly lived up to its name. This cenote is known for being one of the longest underwater cave systems in the world, running a total combined length of over 300 kilometers!
The deepest pit in the {Dos Ojos Cenotes}, is over 390 feet deep and contains a number of; deep diving pits and/or rooms.
Our guide Nelson is passionate about the environment and its preservation as he explains, the cenotes and invites us into “His Office,” for our first close up look, inside the caves.:)

Enjoying the crystal clear fresh water of the cenote
As we snorkeled inside this beautiful system of caves, Nelson led us deeper and deeper, throughout the caverns. We eventually made our way into a magnificent cave, surrounded with; tons of bats up above!
It was also really cool watching the scuba divers below, who were much deeper in the cenotes.
This truly was the real version of the “Bat Cave!”

This was an amazing experience and enjoyed by all in our small group. It was even more special, because of our passionate guide showing and detailing many things, along the way.
Edventure Snorkel Tours Second Stop – Yal–Ku Natural Aquarium
After enjoying a lovely homemade authentic Mayan style lunch prepared for us at Yal-Ku, we then strolled to our next water adventure location, just a few steps away.
Enjoying a traditional homemade lunch
Nelson joined us in this beautiful natural lagoon aquarium, surrounded by a lush; mangrove forest. We followed along, as he guided us on another snorkel tour around the lagoon.
This was a truly unique experience, snorkeling in this lagoon. It was just another exceptional location for snorkeling and viewing the abundance, and variety of underwater sea life.
Yal-Ku Natural Lagoon
Yal-Ku is a perfect location for people of all levels of swimming or snorkeling experience, all in a natural and safe environment.

Edventure Snorkel Tours Third Stop – Turtle Bay
Turtle Bay is home to the {Centro Ecologico Akumal or Akumal Ecological Center}, for the preservation and protection of the sea turtles.
Akumal Ecological Center
Located in Akumal, which is also known in Mayan as “Land of Turtles,” this area strives, to control and protect its precious sea life.
At the same time, it allows tourists such as ourselves, to experience sea turtles and other marine life, in their natural surroundings.
Beautiful protected Sea Turtles
Once again, Nelson led us into the waters to begin our snorkel tour of the bay. Along the way, viewing the beautiful sea turtles, variety of colorful fish and stingrays passing by, casually beneath us.
A perfect way to end our day of Snorkeling and Edventure!
Nelson guiding us along the way in Turtle Bay
We enjoyed revisiting both Yal-Ku Natural Lagoon and snorkeling among the turtles, at Turtle Bay. Both destinations are a “Must Do,” especially if you enjoy the outdoors and snorkeling.
Private Cenote & ATV Adventure
On our second visit and tour, our day started on private property, beginning with an fun; ATV ride to an exclusive, private hidden Cenote.
You have the option of adding and driving your own ATV to the Cenote site, or hopping in a; multi-seat ATV with your guide, as we did.
Good fun was had by all in our group and meeting a few others, along the way!
Our ATV ride led us to the entrance way to an amazing private cenote!
The cavern and the water was absolutely beautiful and it was incredible to have this cenote, to ourselves.
Along with our superb guide for the day … Javier.
Swimming and snorkeling within cenote was outstanding!
The water was crystal clear, warm and to experience the beautiful walls and formations, within the cenote and underwater, was amazing!
With the lights on inside the cenote, just added to the beautiful display and colors surrounding you. It was such a pleasure to spend time at this beautiful location, all to ourselves!
After enjoying snorkeling at this cenote, it was time for lunch. We hopped back on the ATV’s, for a short ride to our peaceful lunch location on the property.
Still on these private grounds, homemade tortillas and beer and/or other beverages were served.
This tour continued on after lunch to both {Yal-Ku Natural Lagoon} and snorkeling, among the turtles at … Turtle Bay.
I can’t stress enough how unique and individualized a small group tour is. So much so,in comparison to larger and overcrowded structured bus tours. If you are a small group, then I urge you to give these smaller customized tours a try.
